Mayibuye iAfrika hosts inaugural national convention

SOWETO (CONVERSEER) – Mayibuye iAfrika is currently hosting its inaugural national convention at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus.

The event has brought together delegates from all nine provinces, along with youth, women, student, traditional, and religious representatives.

Throughout the gathering, the movement is focusing on adopting its founding policy document, the Restoration Manifesto, which highlights priorities such as economic justice, land restitution, job creation, and social equality.

The convention follows a recent leadership reshuffle, which Shivambu described as a necessary step to strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

Observers say the event will be crucial in shaping Mayibuye iAfrika’s political identity and demonstrating its potential as a serious contender in South Africa’s evolving political landscape.
