Over one million acres burned across Oregon on Tuesday, with multiple wildfire spreading across the state.
The fires destroy around 200 homes, closed major highways in Oregon, while firefighters worked on contain fires Tuesday, according to the Statesman Journal.
The largest fire is Big Grass fire, burning more than 300,000 acres across eastern Oregon near Southwest Idaho, according to OregonLive. Ten days ago, Canadian wildfires created “hazardous” conditions throughout the east coast, there was so much smoke due to the peat build up.
The fires moved quickly in the Oregon fires due to fast-moving winds 10 to 20 mph, with directions changing throughout the day, according to Central Oregon Fire Info.
Eastern Oregon’s ecosystem is dry and contains ponderosa pine trees, shared among eastern Washington and Idaho, according to the Spokesman-Review.
Bench and Beachcomb combined into one fire burning 45,000 while, Rowe Creek Complex hosted multiple fires, merging with two different fires on Monday, burning 71,000 acres. Akawa Butte fire was caused by lighting-caused, burns 27,000 acres, according to Oregon Live.
Rowe Creek Complex derived from the Green Mountain and Crosswhite fires, burned 294,000 fire. Tuesday morning firefighters from California arrived working on the southern edge of Rowe creek complex.
Operations Chief Steve Chapman told Oregon Live, to use water and hand tools to mix burning material into what crews call a “mud pie” to ensure it does not reignite.
“It’s kind of like being a kid sometimes, so it’s kind of fun,” Chapman told the outlet.
