A woman identified as Madam Stella, dr.0wned her six-year-old daughter, Rachael, in Bayelsa State.
The tragic incident happened in Ukubie community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state on Monday, February 3, 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, Rachael had gone to the waterfront where her mother found her.
Despite her mother’s repeated warnings to leave the water, Rachael refused, prompting her mother to become enraged.
In a fit of rage, Stella allegedly held her daughter’s hands and threw her into the river, leading to the child’s death.
When confronted by shocked community members, Stella confessed to the act, pleading for forgiveness.
“I regret my actions. I never knew it would happen this way,” she said.
A family member, Jeph Nation, expressed his devastation over the incident.
“I have recorded two deaths already in my paternal family at Ukubie this year. All were painful and heart-touching, but this one was so pathetic,” he said.
In one of the videos circulating on social media, Stella is seen surrounded by a crowd as she explained what led to the act.
