The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has declared its support for the leadership direction of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, saying the party remains united and determined to reclaim the state in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s governorship candidate, David Ombugadu, made the declaration on Thursday in Lafia during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, stakeholders and the seven serving PDP members of the State House of Assembly.
Ombugadu said the party had put aside its differences and was now focused on rebuilding its structures, reconciling aggrieved members and mobilising for victory in 2027.
“Our leaders, stakeholders, and members are all aligned. The business now is to rebuild, reconcile, and win back the state in 2027,” he said.
He said the party was determined to win the governorship, all National Assembly seats and the 24 State House of Assembly constituencies in the state.
Ombugadu promised that a PDP administration would prioritise security, infrastructure and the welfare of residents, particularly those in rural communities.
Also speaking, the PDP State Chairman, Dr Joel Gimba, dismissed reports of division within the party, describing them as attempts to distract members ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gimba said the Nasarawa PDP remained united and firmly aligned with the leadership direction of Wike and the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohamed.
“Let it be clear to everyone: Nasarawa PDP is united, focused, and standing firmly behind the leadership direction provided by His Excellency, Nyesom Wike and Mohamed,” he said.
He disclosed that reconciliation committees had been established across the three senatorial districts to resolve grievances arising from decisions and outcomes of the party’s primaries.
According to him, the committees have one week to complete their assignments and submit their reports to the party for further action.
The former chairman of the party, Francis Orogu, also urged members to disregard reports of factionalisation circulating on social media, describing them as the handiwork of political opponents.
He called on PDP members to remain loyal, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and work collectively towards victory in the 2027 general elections.
The seven PDP lawmakers in the State House of Assembly and the 15 new candidates, including federal lawmakers and stakeholders at the meeting, applauded the party leadership and pledged their support for the effort to reclaim the state in 2027.
