The Cross River State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, PhD, has hosted children from Wards 4 and 5 in Calabar South Local Government Area as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The event, held at Amayo Duke School in Egerton, attracted hundreds of children accompanied by their mothers to celebrate the annual event dedicated to promoting the rights, welfare and future of children.
Addressing participants, Duke reaffirmed his commitment to community development, youth empowerment and child welfare, stressing the importance of investing in children through education and proper moral upbringing.
According to him, supporting children at the grassroots level remains one of the most reliable ways to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for Cross River State.
As part of the celebration, Duke distributed cash gifts, food items and other support packages to children present at the event.
He also extended support to parents whose children required special assistance, including financial aid for healthcare needs and educational support.
The Children’s Day activities later moved to the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, where Duke met with teenage table tennis players and swimmers.
In support of the young athletes, he donated a bag of rice to the swimmers and also presented N5,000 each to the athletes.
