The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) taken by 186,291 candidates.

According to NECO, the candidates sat for 12 subjects across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20 and ended on April 30, 2026.

NECO’s Board Director of Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said the results were approved for release after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

“The Result of the Examination was released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State,” the statement read.

At the meeting, Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the process leading to the release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO management.

Meanwhile, the committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the BECE resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO said the resit examination is for candidates who have deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

It added that the resit would allow affected candidates to address the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating an academic session.
