The Nigerian equities market took a hit during the just-concluded trading week as investors lost N421 billion on the trading floor of the Nigerian Xchange (NGX).
Ripples Nigeria reports that investors recorded a gain of N196 billion the previous week.
In the current week, the equities market gained in two of the five trading days and incurred a loss of N421 billion in the process.
The market capitalization decreased to N67.193 trillion from N67.614 trillion recorded the previous week.
Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.62% to close the week at 107,821.39 points from the 108,497.40 points recorded the previous week.
The Nigerian equities market began the week on Monday, February 24, 2025, on a bearish note as investors lost N230.85 billion at the end of the trading session.
The market also closed with a loss on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, as investors lost N215.11 billion.
The bulls returned to the market on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as investors gained a paltry N10.72bn.
The bears returned to the market on Thursday, February 27, 2025, as investors lost N76.98 billion at the end of the trading session.
The market closed the week and the month on Friday, February 28, 2025, with a profit as investors gained N90.95 billion.
Meanwhile, a total turnover of 1.848 billion shares worth N51.387 billion in 63,090 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 2.001 billion shares valued at N49.486 billion that exchanged hands last week in 70,853 deals.
The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.296 billion shares valued at N26.914 billion traded in 29,140 deals; thus contributing 70.13% and 52.38% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Services industry followed with 129.443 million shares worth N719.218 million in 3,657 deals.
In third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 116.696 million shares worth N4.185 billion in 7,452 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely Zenith Bank Plc, FCMB Group Plc and Access Holdings Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 539.768 million shares worth N16.528 billion in 7,392 deals, contributing 29.21% and 32.16% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Twenty-seven (27) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than twenty-eight (28) equities in the previous week. Sixty (60) equities depreciated in price, higher than fifty-eight (58) in the previous week, while sixty-three (63) equities remained unchanged, lower than sixty-four (64) recorded in the previous week.
P Z Cussons Nigeria Plc recorded the biggest share price increase in percentage gaining 31.11% followed by Caverton Offshore Support Grp Plc which increased its share price by 22.92% in the process.
Livestock Feeds Plc also increased its share price by 22.81%.
On the flip side, Sunu Assurances Nigeria Plc recorded the biggest decline in share prices by percentage shedding 19.55% followed by Eunisell Interlinked Plc which shed 18.67% of its share prices.
Learn Africa Plc also knocked off 16.46% of its share prices.
