After months of economic hardship, the Federal Government is urging Nigerians to hold on just a little longer because 2025, they say, will be the year everything changes.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this bold declaration on Tuesday at the Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja.
According to him, the transformative reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration will finally start bearing fruit, bringing real, tangible benefits to the people.
But for many Nigerians, that promise can’t come soon enough.
Since Tinubu’s inauguration in May 2023, the country has been grappling with wave after wave of economic shocks. The removal of fuel subsidies, the unification of the foreign exchange market, and a 50% hike in data and call costs have left households struggling. Now, with looming plans to increase electricity tariffs for non-Band A customers, the pressure only seems to be mounting.
It’s no surprise that patience is wearing thin.
Still, Idris remains confident that better days lie ahead. He insists that these tough policies are paving the way for lasting economic stability and growth.
“This year, 2025, is set to be the year of consolidation. A year when all the transformative reforms initiated by President Tinubu’s administration begin to yield tangible benefits in the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
Central to this optimism is the recently signed N54.2 trillion budget which is the largest in Nigeria’s history. Idris described it as more than just numbers on paper. “The 2025 budget is a bold statement of intent. A roadmap for economic resilience, social stability, and national progress,” he said.
The budget prioritizes security, infrastructure, education, health, solid minerals, agriculture, and other key sectors crucial to national development. And the government, Idris assured, is committed to ensuring its efficient implementation so that every naira spent translates into improved living standards.
At the briefing, other ministers also took turns sharing their ministries’ achievements. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of State, painted pictures of progress and milestones though the reality on the streets still feels far from it.
