NNPC Issues Alert on Fraudulent Job Recruitment Link for Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has issued a stern warning against a fake recruitment link circulating online, allegedly tied to the newly revamped Port Harcourt refinery.

In a statement on Friday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, debunked the fraudulent claims, clarifying that no new recruitment process has been initiated outside the legitimate one that began last year.

Soneye explained that candidates who successfully passed the computer-based aptitude test from the ongoing recruitment exercise have now advanced to the interview stage.

“The recruitment link being shared across various online platforms is nothing but a scam orchestrated by fraudsters to exploit the excitement surrounding the Port Harcourt refinery’s revival,” Soneye said. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such schemes.”

This announcement comes just weeks after the Port Harcourt refinery, once a symbol of Nigeria’s faltering oil infrastructure, resumed operations on November 26. After years of dormancy, the refinery has now started processing crude oil and loading petroleum products for distribution.

Currently operating at 70 percent of its installed capacity, the refinery has become a beacon of hope for the nation’s energy sector. NNPC has also expressed its commitment to ramping up operations to 90 percent in the near future, signaling a potential shift in Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products.

As optimism grows around the refinery’s success, Soneye’s warning serves as a timely reminder for Nigerians to remain cautious in the face of fraudulent schemes exploiting this progress.

“NNPC remains committed to transparency in all its processes,” Soneye added. “We will continue to update the public through official channels.”

For job seekers, the advice is clear: steer clear of unofficial recruitment links, and rely solely on verified communications from NNPC.
