NNPC Refutes Viral Claims Regarding Fuel Quality

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has strongly refuted allegations circulating in a viral video claiming that its fuel burns out faster than expected.

The state-owned oil firm dismissed the claims as misleading and lacking any scientific credibility, attributing them to what it described as “unverified and amateur research.”

In a statement released on Saturday by Olufemi Soneye NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the corporation reaffirmed that its fuel meets top industry standards, ensuring efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability.

“The assertion that NNPC fuel does not last is baseless and entirely unfounded,” the statement read. “Our fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions to guarantee optimal performance for consumers.”

The company also clarified that a significant portion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at its retail stations in Lagos—where the controversial video was purportedly recorded—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a key partner in Nigeria’s push for energy security.

“Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, ensuring that all petroleum products supplied to the public meet global quality benchmarks,” NNPC Ltd emphasized.

NNPC Ltd went further to condemn what it termed a “deliberate attempt by economic saboteurs” to misinform the public and tarnish its reputation. The company warned that it would take legal action against individuals or groups deliberately spreading falsehoods about its operations.

“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation aimed at undermining our efforts to serve Nigerians. Anyone found culpable in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the company warned.

The statement urged Nigerians to disregard unverified claims and rely on official sources for accurate information on fuel quality and supply.
