NNPCL Unveils Five Mini-LNG Facilities

Reading Time: 1 min read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited on Thursday launched five Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) mini-plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The five LNG mini-plants are PRIME LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete.

The plants will take their feedstock, natural gas, from natural gas pipes that are already traveling up to the Ajaokuta location.

The main source pipeline for the mini-plants is the AKK pipeline, which is the Ajaokuta-Kano-Kaduna gas pipeline being built by the Federal Government.

These plants would serve gas to parts of the country that are currently without any form of gas infrastructure.

The mini-LNG plants are poised to have a significant impact on local communities, enabling increased access to reliable and cleaner energy for industries and households in the region.

In particular, the plants are expected to support the growth of manufacturing and other critical sectors by providing an uninterrupted supply of affordable and efficient energy, which has been a major challenge for businesses in the country.

The NNPC’s move to introduce these plants aligns with the federal government’s broader goal of harnessing Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources and reducing flaring, while advancing the country’s energy transition.
