… Appreciates Sankera over 2027, to station three operational military units there

From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has assured the people of Sankera that no ranch will be established in the state without the consent of the people and his administration.

Governor Alia made the declaration on Monday in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area (LGA) during a town hall meeting with stakeholders from the Sankera political bloc, comprising Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo LGAs.

Alia, who is on a statewide thank you tour following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election, said his administration would not allow anyone to take over the people’s ancestral land under the guise of ranching.

He said, “Nobody will force us to cede even an inch of our land to the pastoralist for any purpose. If that must happen, I can assure you, it will not be this time that I am still the Governor of Benue State.”

Speaking on security, the Governor announced that Sankera will be hosting three operational military units as one of the measures to strengthen security in the area.

He said the units would be stationed at Agu in Katsina-Ala, Anyiin in Logo and Azendeshi in Ukum.

Alia also announced the donation of 30 motorcycles to security agencies in the area to enhance patrols and facilitate rapid response to security emergencies.

On infrastructure and development, the Governor disclosed plans to construct a new dam with a projected capacity of 460 megawatts, saying the project would provide water and support electricity generation for the people of the state.

The town hall meetings are part of the governor’s ongoing engagement with APC stakeholders across the 11 federal constituencies in Benue State and are expected to continue in the coming days.
