The Governing Board of the National Park Service (NPS) has approved the promotion of Mrs Maris Mamman as the first female Assistant Conservator-General (ACG) in the history of the Service.

Mrs Agbor Eba, the Media Assistant to the Conservator-General (C-G) of the NPS, who made this known while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the board also approved the promotion of 607 personnel.

She said the approval was part of efforts to strengthen the Service, boost staff morale and improve the effective management of Nigeria’s national parks.

She said that the promotions were approved after the board endorsed the recommendations of its Establishment Committee on June 23.

Eba said that Mamman was promoted from the rank of Conservator of Parks (CP) to Assistant Conservator-General (A-CG), making her the first female officer to attain the position in the history of the NPS.

She added that the board also confirmed the appointment of the Acting Assistant Conservator-General, Mr Ugochukwu Michael, as substantive A-CG from the South-East.

Eba described the promotions landmark achievements and a demonstration of the Service’s commitment to gender inclusion in wildlife conservation.

She said the NPS Conservator-General of the NPS, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, congratulated the personnel on their success and urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, commitment, discipline and dedication to the protection and conservation of Nigeria’s biodiversity.

She reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to building a motivated workforce capable of delivering on its mandate of conserving the nation’s natural heritage for present and future generations.
