The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, has announced Friday, October 23, 2026, as the burial date for its departed colleague and veteran journalist, Mr Anietie Akpan.
The announcement was contained in a notice issued by the Secretary of the NUJ Cross River State Council, Comrade Mike Abang.
According to the Council, the burial date was communicated through a notification from the late journalist’s widow, who expressed appreciation to family members, friends, colleagues and other well-wishers for their prayers, support and messages of comfort following his passing.
The widow stated that further details concerning the burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
The NUJ Cross River State Council urged journalists and members of the public to take note of the burial date and continue to support the Akpan family during the period of mourning.
The Council also called on its members to keep the family in their prayers as preparations continue to give the late veteran journalist a befitting final farewell.
Mr Anietie Akpan’s death was received with sadness within the journalism community, where he was regarded as a veteran colleague and contributor to the profession.
Before his death, Akpan served as the Bureau Chief of The Guardian Nigeria Newspapers, as well as co-founded Pillar Today Newspapers.
The NUJ Cross River State Council said more information on the funeral arrangements would be made available as communicated by the family.
