In a recent statement issued in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, the leadership of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) and the Tourism Volunteer Network (TVN), Cross River State Chapter, have strongly urged their members to refrain from engaging in violent protests.
This call to action was made during an exclusive interview with CONVERSEER by Ambassador Bassey Nton Nton, the head of these progressive organisations.
Ambassador Nton Nton emphasised the critical role of the Tourism Volunteer Network, describing it as an organisation driven by dedicated volunteers committed to supporting the government’s efforts in tourism development.
“Our work extends beyond Cross River State, known as the home of tourism, to encompass Nigeria, Africa, and the promotion of world tourism,” he stated.

He further highlighted the significant contributions of the NYAN, Cross River State Chapter, noting its decade-long dedication to fostering positive engagement, innovation, entrepreneurship, and good governance among Nigerian youth.
“The National Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter remains a dynamic and youth-centred organisation. We are committed to encouraging youth participation in good governance, upholding principles of equity, freedom, and justice, and advocating for youth involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Nton Nton.
Ambassador Nton Nton reassured that both organisations remain steadfast in achieving their aims and objectives through peaceful and constructive means.
“We will not be part of any protest at this time. Instead, let us engage the government in progressive deliberations to foster growth,” he urged.
This decision, according to Ambassador Nton Nton, was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders and various groups.
He concluded by urging all members to shun violent protests and focus on productive dialogue and collaboration with the government for sustainable development.
