Calabar, Nigeria – The State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has said it will inaugurate members of the State Advisory Council.
According to its Chairman Comrade Olayi Emmanuel, the State Advisory Council will be nominated from various Local Government Areas – 5 of each to be submitted through the office of the Vice Chairman.
Olayi disclosed this on Friday, at the NYCN stakeholders and leadership round table meeting, in Calabar Cross River State Capital.
He noted that members of the advisory council are individuals, who had become a member of the NYCN and will serve as advisers to the council on official capacity.
He said, “Let me once again remind all members who are here especially our gentlemen of the press, that members of the advisory committee are individuals drawn from all the 18 Local Government Area to serve as Advisers to the Youth Council in Cross River State.
“Not only from the Local Government, we also have individuals from Voluntary Youth organisations, and from persons who are living with disabilities.
“The Council’s Advisory Council when inaugurated will serve as advisers to us the Executives; there are members of the council who have been with us over the years, and should be given an avenue to continue to advice and serve in that capacity.”
Olayi also said as part of the action plans for the 2025, his administration will also contribute to the State Budget for 2025. The chairman disclosed that works had commenced in getting land documents, to secure some parts of the property belonging to the Youth Council.
He described the plan as an avenue of drawing prospective investors into the State, through investments that would yield employment opportunities.
“Last time some people came here and said they wanted to build hotels but I did not accept it, because we don’t have the documents to recover this property to the football field.
“This property we are sitting on currently was facilitated by then Governor Liyel Imoke, including my predecessors like Comrade Dan Obo, and Prince Agbor Onyi, and other wonderful colleagues.
“I was told that this property exceeds even down to the football field but we don’t have the documents, our plan for next year is that we will try to get those documents because right now even when investors come, we cannot give out something we don’t have, especially when we don’t have a document to show for it.
“So, it is my believe like everyone here that by next year that should be done, so that people can come here to invest. It will create jobs for young school leavers and also generate revenue for the council,” Olayi added.
Also speaking, was Jane Frances Kamgba, Director at the Ministry of Youths Development, who charged council members to continue to support the government, and contribute to the growth of state.
Highlights of the event was the deliberation of the NYCN achievement, work plan and focus for the year 2025.
