A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and spokesperson for the Forum of Federal Government Appointees, Illiyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has said the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, do not possess the cross-regional appeal or political followership required to win a presidential election in Nigeria.
Illiyasu made the assertion during an interview with journalists in Kano on Wednesday.
He described the contest between the two politicians and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “the most laughable contest in recent political history”, insisting that the duo could not match the APC and its presidential candidate in the forthcoming election.
He also alleged that Kwankwaso might be playing a political game as Peter Obi’s running mate in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that he could be quietly supporting a different presidential candidate.
Illiyasu added that Nigerians would come to appreciate his suspicion as the election drew closer.
Speaking on behalf of members of the forum, Illiyasu expressed their determination to ensure the success of President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, insisting that the administration had performed well for Nigeria and Nigerians.
He urged President Tinubu to remain confident about support from Northern Nigeria, adding that Kano State and the wider northern region were already firmly behind the President.
He also listed several intervention projects undertaken by the administration in the region, saying they cut across multiple sectors.
According to him, the projects include healthcare revitalisation programmes, ecological and agricultural interventions, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline aimed at boosting domestic gas supply and power generation across northern states.
He added that some of the projects were nearing completion, while others had already been completed.
Illiyasu maintained that the projects were already having a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.
