President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi), on his 85th birthday.
Tinubu described the revered monarch as a symbol of unity and integrity.
Tinubu paid tribute to the foremost traditional ruler in the South-East for his contributions to nation-building, corporate leadership and community development, according to a statement by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
The president noted that before ascending the throne of his forebears, Achebe had a distinguished career in the oil and gas sector, serving as a director of Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria and holding leadership positions in other Shell companies across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia and Angola.

“President Tinubu salutes the foremost traditional ruler in the South-East, corporate leader, oil and gas expert, and boardroom guru, describing him as a symbol of unity, grace, and integrity.
“Igwe Achebe had served as a director in Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria, as well as in other Shell companies in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, Liberia, and Angola, before ascending the throne of his forebears,” the statement read.
Tinubu further commended the monarch’s efforts in promoting peace, empowering youths and driving socio-economic development within and beyond his domain. He also lauded the traditional ruler’s role in fostering national cohesion and serving as a bridge between grassroots communities and government institutions.
According to him, Achebe’s decades of service in corporate leadership, enterprise and governance have earned him widespread respect across the country.
The president joined the royal family, the people of Onitsha and Anambra State in wishing the monarch good health, strength and many more years of service to his community, state and the nation.
