#Olympics: Spain beat Morocco, France beat Egypt to set up final clash

The semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics come to an an end today as Spain defeated Morocco to set up a final clash with France who also defeated Eqypt.

Earlier, Spain U23 defeated Morocco U23 2-1 in the first semifinal men’s football match to reach the Olympic final in Paris.

Morocco opened the scoring in the 37 minutes via Soufiane Rahimi’s penalty, but Spain came from behind in the second half through Fermin Lopez’s 67-minute and Juanlu Sanchez’s 85-minute goals to complete the comeback.

Spain served Morocco their chill revenge for defeating them in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals.

Spain now have a chance to win the 2024 Olympics after winning the 2024 Euro.

In the second semifinal match, host France U23 defeated 10-man Egypt U23 3-1 after extra time to reach the final in front of their fans.

Egypt thought they had a chance to win it after Mahmoud Saber opened the scoring in the 62nd minute.

The Egyptian held on until the 83rd minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta levelled the game for France.

The match went into extra time following a controversial VAR penalty call right at the stop of normal time.

Egypt’s Omar Fayed received a second yellow card in the 92nd minute, with France capitalising on that to take the lead through Mateta’s 99th-minute header.

France put the game to bed through Michael Olise in the 108th minute as Egypt searched for an equaliser.

It was never going to be an all-African affair final as the European teams claimed the bragging rights over their neighbours down south.

The results mean France will play Spain in the final for the Gold and Silver medals while Egypt will play Morocco in the 3rd place match for the Bronze medal.
