Over 6,000 arrested, rescued from tiger-trafficking operations in Myanmar

The Karen State Border Guard Force is carrying out a crackdown on people who are trapped and trafficked in the KK Park area of Shwe Kuk Kol, Myawaddy Township, Karen State. More than 6,000 to 7,000 people have been arrested, rescued, and detained, and the transfer of them is being delayed, Brigadier General Saw Tin Win, Commander of the 2nd Military Region, said.

“The difficulties we are facing are many. Food, housing, water, electricity, health, let alone 6,000 to 7,000 people, let alone 4,500 people. How difficult will it be? There are many difficulties. First, they will quickly resolve this issue, and we are also working quickly now. Now there are 4,500 to 6,000 people who will return. How will we do it, who will feed them? Now there are only 700 people who have come to carry them for three or four days. There are 6,700 people here. How will we do it, who will take responsibility? We are already doing it, when will they do it? That’s what I want to say. There are different types of people who drink beer and those who are angry. What I want to say is that they should come quickly, if possible, 1,000 people a day. If it takes longer, it will not be convenient. Right now, there is no specific plan, but if it takes longer, I think we will have to go to the top of the bridge to pour out the Burmese people,” said Brigadier General Saw Tin Win.

He told reporters on February 25 that the new Sakapru Hospital was opened in Thit Ket Sanpya village, at the foot of Mount Dawna, north of Myawaddy town, Karen State.

Myanmar government officials say they are systematically conducting checks and balances to enable government-to-government transfers, but are facing many difficulties due to the slow acceptance by the other side.

Brigadier General Saw Tin Win said, “Government officials are inspecting this every day. The main thing I want to say is that they should come and pick us up quickly. At first, they said they would do it quickly, and I also said they would do it quickly. What if it takes longer? Will Thailand take responsibility or China take responsibility? Who will take responsibility? It’s out of control now.”

In Myawaddy, the tiger-trafficking industry, the trapped and the victims of human trafficking, have been arrested, rescued and held in two locations. Thailand, which wants to quickly eliminate the tiger-trafficking industry, needs to accept the transfer as soon as possible.
