Oyo police parade five suspects as probe deepens into alleged arms cache

The Oyo State Police Command has paraded five individuals arrested in connection with the discovery of firearms and other suspicious items in a property allegedly linked to former Park Management System (PMS) member, Surajudeen Adio, widely known as Suri Ilupeju.

The suspects were presented on Wednesday at the Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola.

Among those arrested is Muideen Adio, identified as the son of the prime suspect, Suri Ilupeju, who recently returned from Poland. Police said the elder Adio remains at large and is currently being sought by investigators.

The arrests followed the June 16, 2026 demolition of a building by the Oyo State Government. Authorities alleged that the structure had been used to store arms and ammunition and was targeted as part of the state’s crackdown on properties connected to criminal activities.

In a separate operation, the government also demolished a three-bedroom bungalow located in the Lako Community along Aiyegun-Anaye Road in Ibadan. Officials claimed the building served as a hideout for a kidnapping gang involved in the abduction of Mrs. Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The demolition followed an intelligence-led rescue mission conducted by the Nigeria Police Force, which led to the arrest of two principal suspects and the neutralisation of two others. The operation was executed by the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.

Providing further details on the ongoing investigation, Ayanlade said, “Adio, who is said to be a former member of the PMS, came under investigation after allegedly threatening to shoot an individual, who subsequently reported the matter to law enforcement authorities.

“Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and unravel the full extent of the alleged criminal activities linked to the property.”

He reiterated the command’s resolve to combat crime and ensure public safety across Oyo State.

However, the suspects distanced themselves from the allegations against Suri Ilupeju, insisting that “we only visited the suspect to seek financial assistance, not to participate in any criminal activities.”
