An atmosphere of gratitude filled a church in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as Professor Alamu, husband of rescued school principal Mrs. Rachael Alamu, broke into a joyful dance during a thanksgiving service to celebrate her return from captivity.
The emotional moment, captured in a video shared by Oyo Matters on Sunday, showed the professor and members of the congregation singing “Hallelujah” and dancing in appreciation for the safe rescue of Mrs. Alamu and the other abducted victims.
Mrs. Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area, was kidnapped alongside pupils and teachers when gunmen attacked the school on May 15, 2026.
The victims spent more than 50 days in captivity before they were rescued by security operatives in an operation announced by the Federal Government on Friday.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said all those abducted had been successfully rescued by security agencies.
Following their release, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde visited the victims at the Military Hospital in Ibadan on Saturday, where they are receiving medical attention and psychosocial care ahead of their return to their families.
Authorities have disclosed that the rescued pupils and teachers will be formally handed over to the Oyo State Government on Monday before being reunited with their loved ones.
The thanksgiving service was one of the first public celebrations by Mrs. Alamu’s family after the rescue, with the widely shared video of Professor Alamu’s dance drawing emotional reactions from Nigerians, many of whom expressed relief and gratitude over the safe return of the victims.
Parents of the rescued schoolchildren have also welcomed the development, saying they are eagerly looking forward to reuniting with their children after weeks of uncertainty.
