PDP to Comply with Court Ruling Regarding National Secretary Position

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) on Friday promised to abide by the Appeal Court order which restrained the party from appointing an acting National Secretary in place of Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

He said the party had in the last few days issued two court orders on the authentic national secretary of the party.

He added that PDP was served with an order of interim injunction issued by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, in a suit marked: CV/64/2025 on Wednesday.

Abdullahi said that the order in the suit filed by the party chairman in Imo State, Austine Nwachukwu, restrained the party from recorgnising the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, as the substantive national secretary.

“On Thursday, we were also served with a stay of execution order by the Court of Appeal (Abuja Division) in an appeal No. CA/E/24/2024 on a judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Enugu, on December 20, 2024.

“Accordingly, we are obliged, as a law-abiding party, to respect the order of the court.

“We will also send a legal representation to defend the party in the suit when the motion on notice comes up on Jan. 8 and February 5 for hearing on the originating summons,’’ he said.

Abdullahi said Anyanwu remained the party’s substantive national secretary until the determination of the appeal before the Supreme Court.

“Where there is an appeal, it only behooves the appellant to wait until the determination of the appeal. That is the position of law,’’ the spokesman added.

Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court on Wednesday restrained the PDP and all its organs from removing Anyanwu from office pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

He also restrained Koshoedo from issuing any notice of meetings of the National Executive Committee and NWC respectively or performing any function of the National Secretary of the PDP except in the absence of the former and when directed by the National Secretary to so act pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.

The party had last year removed Anyanwu as its National Secretary and replaced him with Koshoedo.
