The Cross River State Police Command has announced plans to conduct a routine shooting range exercise on Friday, 5 June 2026, at Asabanka in Anyanganse Community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Command said the exercise would commence at 8:00 a.m. and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the operational readiness and professionalism of police personnel in the state.
According to the statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the training exercise is designed to retrain officers on proper weapon handling, inspect service firearms, and assess other operational equipment in line with professional policing standards and best practices.
The Command urged residents not to panic at the sight of increased police presence or the sound of gunfire during the exercise, explaining that officers would be carrying out official training activities within the designated shooting range.
“The exercise forms part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to retrain police personnel on proper weapon handling, inspect service arms, and assess other operational equipment in line with professional policing standards and best practices,” the statement said.
The police also issued a safety advisory to residents, farmers, hunters and other members of the public, warning them to stay away from the shooting range and surrounding areas throughout the duration of the exercise.
The Command noted that the precautionary measure was necessary to prevent accidental exposure to stray bullets and to avoid any psychological distress that could result from the sound of gunshots.
It further reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Cross River State while carrying out the training exercise.
The statement added that the Command appreciates the understanding, patience and continued cooperation of the public as it works to strengthen the operational capacity of its officers.
