The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists over the attempted m8rder of a rival cult member, identified as Egiegbor Lucky, 29, in Irrua community, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

Spokesperson of the command, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

According to the PPRO, the suspects, Aigbomian Daniel, 20, and Innocent Okiomisi, 32, who are reportedly members of the Eiye Confraternity, trailed and shot at the victim on January 14 with the intent to kill him.

The victim managed to escape and reported the incident at the Irrua Police Station while the suspects fled the scene.

It was gathered that the attack stemmed from an ongoing rivalry between cult groups in the area.

“I can confirm to you that the suspected cultists were arrested and are in police custody. During interrogation, they confessed to being members of cult groups. One locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects, and they will be charind to court soon,” Yamu said.

The police spokesperson assured that efforts are ongoing to curtail cult-related violence in the state, reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim.
