The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested 42 individuals for engaging in prostitution and drug-related activities at Ayamfuri in the Central Region, Ghana.

The group includes 32 Nigerian women, suspected of engaging in prostitution, and 10 Ghanaian young men, believed to be involved in drug peddling.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

According to the Central North Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acqaye, some of the suspects were arrested during operations at suspected hotspots, while others were caught in the act.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 32, were found with various items, including quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concoctions believed to be laced with Indian hemp, condoms, and cigarettes.

During initial questioning, some of the suspects claimed to be victims of human trafficking.

According to them, they were lured with promises of legitimate employment but were later forced into prostitution upon arrival.

Others disclosed that they were compelled to work under exploitative conditions to repay debts owed to their traffickers, who demanded large sums of money before releasing them.

Police investigations are ongoing.
