The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, for allegedly posing as a police officer before attempting to rape a female student at Malikiyya College of Health in Bauchi.

The suspect is also accused of criminal trespass and theft after allegedly sneaking into the female students’ hostel in the early hours of Friday while dressed in a police camouflage uniform.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the incident was reported on July 24, 2026, following a distress call from the college. Preliminary findings showed that at about 2:30 a.m., the suspect allegedly gained unlawful access to the female students’ hostel at Old GRA, Bauchi, while wearing a full police camouflage uniform.

The police said Saleh claimed to be attached to “Garu Security Service”, but investigations indicated he was not a police officer.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of B Division led a team of detectives and patrol officers to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The police camouflage uniform he allegedly wore during the incident was recovered as evidence.

The Command said further investigations linked the suspect to a series of theft cases previously reported around the students’ hostel.

Saleh remains in police custody while investigations continue. Police said he would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned individuals and private security outfits against impersonating security agencies.

He also reassured residents, particularly students, of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in and around educational institutions across Bauchi State.
