The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man allegedly transporting ammunition and other military-related items to suspected bandits in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect, Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended after police received credible intelligence from a member of the public.

According to Kiyawa, operatives of the Bichi Police Division, working with residents of Rimaye Village, intercepted the suspect after receiving reports of a man dressed in what appeared to be military camouflage.

During a search, police recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a pair of desert boots, and several personal identification and bank cards.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect admitted he was on his way to deliver the items to bandits hiding in the surrounding bush.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised members of the Rimaye community for alerting security operatives, saying the arrest highlighted the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in fighting crime.

He urged residents to continue sharing credible information with security agencies to enhance public safety across the state.

The command said investigations are ongoing to uncover the suspect’s alleged accomplices and dismantle the criminal network behind the operation. It added that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
