The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim following a sustained anti-kidnapping operation that also led to the recovery of a firearm, cash, and other exhibits linked to the criminal gang.
The Command disclosed on Wednesday that operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully secured the release of a victim who was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was rescued unharmed on June 18 after an intensive intelligence-led operation involving surveillance and tactical deployments aimed at locating the kidnappers and securing the victim’s freedom.
Babaseyi said the police immediately activated the Anti-Kidnapping Unit upon receiving information about the abduction and deployed intelligence and operational assets to track the perpetrators.
He explained that following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend members of the gang responsible for the crime.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the State. On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape,” he said.
The ensuing gun battle resulted in the death of two suspected kidnappers, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2.2m suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The police said efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigations into the case continue.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, said the successful operation underscored the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
He reiterated that Ogun would remain hostile to criminal elements and assured residents of continued intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations, and strengthened collaboration with communities to safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminality.
