The Cross River State Police Command has ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of a group of girls who stripped and flogged a younger girl in a hotel in Calabar, the state capital.

The order was given by the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, on Thursday, in a statement signed by SP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in the state.

According to the statement with AZ:5250/CRS/PPRD/VOL.17/247, dated 22nd August 2024, the command was reacting to a trending video of the girls assaulting the younger girl named Miss Queen.

CP Grimah said the arrest will assist the police to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident and bring the perpetrators of the act to justice.

“The Police Commissioner wishes to address the recent viral video circulating on social media, which depicts a girl, identified as Miss Queen, being subjected to physical assault by a group of girls while in a hotel room.

“The girl, visibly half-naked in the video, is being flogged for reasons that are currently under investigation so that the perpetrators of this act can be brought to justice.

“This step is crucial in preventing such disturbing incidents from occurring within their premise.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and upholding justice in our society,” the statement read in part.

The Commissioner also called for vigilance by players in the hospitality industry, urging them to take proactive measures in profiling and conducting background checks on guests who visit their facilities.
