The Cross River State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, on Monday played host to the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI) at the Command Headquarters.
The meeting, which was attended by members of the Command’s management team, featured a robust engagement with a delegation comprising representatives from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, Legal Aid Council, and other critical stakeholders in the justice sector.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the deliberations centred extensively on the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2016 in Cross River State. Discussions also covered key provisions and enforcement strategies relating to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and the Police Act 2020.
The engagement emphasised the need for improved synergy among justice sector actors to ensure compliance with legal frameworks that promote accountability, protect human rights, and enhance the efficiency of criminal justice administration.
In his response, CP Afegbua reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and fully implementing the provisions of the ACJL, ACJA, and the Police Act 2020. He stressed that the Command remains dedicated to rights-based policing, professionalism, and continuous capacity building for officers.
The CP further assured the visiting teams of the Command’s readiness to sustain collaboration with relevant stakeholders to strengthen justice delivery and build public confidence in the policing system.
