Police Reassure Customs of Cooperation to Fight Smuggling, Other Cross-Border Criminal Activities

Cross River State Police Command has reassured the Nigeria Customs Service of cooperation to fight smuggling and other cross-border criminal activities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, gave the assurance alongside members of his management team on Tuesday, January 13, when he received the newly deployed Customs Area Controller, Cross River/Akwa Ibom Area Command, Comptroller Momodu Giwa Dauda, on a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters, Calabar.

A release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration and fostering a more robust working relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service in the interest of “enhanced security, effective border management, and the overall protection of lives and property within the state”.

CP Afegbua who warmly welcomed the Comptroller and his team, assured him of the Command’s continued support and cooperation in tackling crimes, “particularly those related to smuggling, economic sabotage, and other cross-border criminal activities”.

He emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing and joint operations among sister security agencies.

In his remarks, Comptroller Dauda expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to working closely with the Police Command to maintain peace, security, and economic stability in Cross River State.

The meeting ended on a cordial note, with both heads of the security agencies pledging sustained collaboration towards achieving a safer and more secure environment for residents of the state.
