Police refute explosion attack in Anambra

By Joe Udo

AWKA (CONVERSEER) – The Anambra State Police Command attributes the fire incident in Ekwusigo LGA to a fatal vehicle accident involving a truck and other vehicles, and not an attack by any armed group, contrary to false information circulating on social media.

A press statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on Sunday, states that the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of 21st November 2025 when a tanker loaded with PMS (fuel) collided with a car. The collision resulted in the tanker bursting into flames, with some nearby shops being damaged by the inferno.

The statement added that a tricycle operator within the area of impact was killed.

Meanwhile, the Command frowns at individuals and groups using the unfortunate incident to spread panic, fear, and tension in the State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a probe into the social media publication to identify the handler responsible for spreading the fake and misleading report.
