Police operatives in Nasarawa have rescued two abducted students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia).

The students were kidnapped on March 30.

The spokesman for the state police command, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia.

He said the command received a distress call on March 30 that a student’s lodge was attacked at 9:20 p.m., and two students were abducted.

The spokesman said: “On March 30, at about 9:20 p.m., we received a distress call of an attack at a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

“During the attack, two students of the Federal University, Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted.

“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators.

“Following technical intelligence, the rescue team discovered that the victims were held in a forest behind the 500 housing units along Doma road.

“The team engaged them in a gun duel in the forest, and the police firepower overwhelmed them, and they fled in different directions and abandoned the victims, who were safely rescued.”

He added that one suspect, Ibrahim Musa of Abuni village, Awe Local Government Area of the state, was arrested at the scene.

He said the suspect had made a useful confession and was assisting the ongoing investigations.
