The leader of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Igboho, working in collaboration with the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force and officers coordinated by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, rescued a woman and her son who were abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Igboho’s media office, the victims, identified as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik, were rescued during the joint operation and are receiving medical attention at Igboho General Hospital.
The statement said the operation lasted about three days and succeeded through sustained intelligence gathering, tracking, and the use of a ransom lure to draw the abductors out of hiding.
Igboho said he and members of his team, alongside ASP Amos Ajegoke and police officers, spent days combing the forest and monitoring the kidnappers’ movements before locating them at Bode Sadu, near Jebba in Kwara State, on July 2.
According to the statement, the team remained at the location through Friday night before launching the operation shortly after midnight on Saturday.
“Around 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, they came to collect the ransom as we had agreed. But we attacked them in the forest and there was an exchange of gunshots. We subsequently gave them a hot chase and combed the forest. They fled. Later, we found out that they had abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik. We heard their voices shouting for help and were able to locate where the voices were coming from and rescued them,” the statement read.
Igboho credited the success of the operation to the support of the Inspector-General of Police, saying the police chief remained in communication with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states throughout the mission.
“It is crucial to say this operation and its success were made possible with the valuable support of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, who was communicating with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states, thus making the strenuous and arduous task fruitful after days and nights inside forests,” the statement said.
Igboho also restated his commitment to protecting lives and property in Oke-Ogun and Oyo State.
The police are yet to issue any statement on the rescue as of the time of filing this report.
