The Airport Police Command said it would arraign 13 suspects arrested for stealing building materials from construction sites at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The command disclosed this in a Friday statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Adeola.

The suspects were identified as Ibrahim Hassan, Haruna Yaya, Ali Muhammed, Walid Shaibu, Idris Musa, Aliu Musa, Mustapha Umaru, and Timothy Joseph.

Others are Isa Adamu, Musa Abdullahi Hassan, Mamuda Ibrahim, Mukhtar Aliyu, and Ibrahim Jidda.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended by the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) at about 6:00pm on July 30, 2026, during a coordinated patrol around the airport construction area.

The police said preliminary investigation revealed that despite the successful prosecution of several suspects arrested for similar offences in April 2026, some criminal elements continued to target the sites.

The statement said operatives recovered high-value copper cables, iron components, and other building materials from the suspects.

They were subsequently handed over to the International Airport Police Division for further investigation and prosecution.

The suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction, the command said.

The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Olufunke Ogunbode, commended the JMTF for its “relentless efforts to protecting critical airport infrastructure.”

She reaffirmed that the safety and security of the airport remain a top priority and urged the public to support security efforts by remaining vigilant and embracing the principle of “See Something, Say Something.”
