Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Professor Abdullahi Mustapha as the Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a second five-year term.
The announcement was made public through a press statement released on Saturday by Toyin Omozuwa, the press secretary to the NBRDA Director General.
Professor Mustapha’s reappointment was formally conveyed in a letter from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
His second tenure will commence on October 31, 2024, as stipulated by the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022, Section 10 (1) and (3).
The statement emphasized that industry experts view the reappointment as a testament to President Tinubu’s confidence in Mustapha’s leadership and vision for the agency, particularly in leveraging biotechnology to achieve national goals like food security.
According to Omozuwa, this extended tenure will provide Mustapha with the opportunity to further advance initiatives in pharmaceutical production and strengthen Nigeria’s standing in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
A distinguished academic, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha is a specialist in Bioinorganic Chemistry and hails from Dambatta Local Government Area in Kano State. With his continued leadership, the NBRDA aims to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s scientific advancement and sustainable development in biotechnology.
