A waste dumping site has collapsed and killed two people, one Nfon Ime and a yet-to be identified female, in Calabar, Cross River State.

Converseer gathered that the incident happened on Friday, August 28, at Ikot Effanga Mkpa, along Old Odukpani Road, Calabar Municipality.

Confirming the incident, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said security personnel were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident occurred in the early hours of the day.

According to Eitokpah, “Police personnel responded promptly to the scene, where it was discovered that the collapsed refuse had impacted a building reportedly constructed within a valley, resulting in the death of two occupants.

“The deceased, identified as Nfon Imé ‘m’, and a yet-to be identified female, believed to have been in the building at the time of the incident, have been recovered and deposited at the mortuary.”

The police spokesman said the Command is assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
