Rivers Government Confirms Five Cholera Cases and Reports Nine Related Deaths

The Rivers State government has confirmed five cases of cholera and nine associated de@ths in an outbreak affecting the Akuku-Toru and Andoni Local Government Areas.

According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the confirmed cases were recorded in Akuku-Toru, while nine fatalities were reported across both LGAs.

In response, the state’s health ministry has activated emergency response teams in the affected areas to contain the outbreak and prevent its spread. Sensitization campaigns have also been launched to educate residents on preventive measures and the importance of hygiene.

Dr. Oreh urged residents to cooperate with health teams, maintain proper sanitation, and ensure the consumption of safe water. She advised those experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration to seek medical attention immediately.

The government emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public health and assured citizens that updates on the outbreak would be provided as the situation evolves. Residents in the affected communities are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases to health authorities promptly.
