Rivers LG Election: Wike reportedly loses polling unit to APP

R-L: Barr. Nyesom Wike; and Amb. Ihunwo Chijioke casting his vote

Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike has reportedly lost his polling unit to the Action Peoples Party (APP) in the ongoing Local Government Election.

According to Naija PR, Wike lost his polling unit, Polling Unit 7 at Ward 9, in Obio/Akpor Local Government.

He lost it to Amb. Ihunwo Chijioke, the APP candidate for Obio/Akpor LGA, who earlier casted his vote in Polling Unit 40, Rumunduru, Obio/Akpor LGA, in the ongoing 5th October 2024 Local Government Election in Rivers State.

CONVERSEER reports that earlier, supporters of Wike staged a protest in Port Harcourt, calling on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to comply with a recent High Court judgment regarding the ongoing local government elections.

According to Vanguard, the protest, which drew a large crowd, was organised in response to what Wike’s supporters described as irregularities in the electoral process.

The demonstrators were carrying placards with messages like “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election.”

Meanwhile, the election has been peaceful with pockets of violence following the tension to the build-up of the election.
