Operatives of the Onipanu Division of the Ogun State police have arrested a 59-year-old security guard, identified as Olaitan Matthew, for allegedly stealing electric motor parts belonging to a company he works for.

Matthew, who works as a security guard at the company located in Tomori, Animashaun Estate, in the Ota area of the state, was arrested at about 4:30 am on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The suspect was apprehended by the anti-crime team of the division when he failed to provide an adequate explanation of how he obtained the motor parts.

Confirming his arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect, after several questions, confessed to stealing the parts from the company while production was temporarily halted.

Odutola said: “On January 15, 2025, at about 4:30 am, the Anti-Crime Team of the Onipanu Division apprehended a 59-year-old security guard named Olaitan Matthew at Land Star Company, located in Tomori Estate, Animashaun Estate, Ota.

“He was found in possession of electric motor parts, and he was unable to give satisfactory answers on how the items came into his possession. When he was further pressed, he admitted that they had been stolen from the very company he was employed to protect.”

Odutola stated that an investigation is still ongoing to recover other items he had stolen from the company.
