Seven people have been killed and two others injured in a multiple road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, said the crash occurred at about 12:03am on Monday, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, Afolabi Odunsi, nine people, all male, were involved in the crash involving three vehicles: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.
The agency said seven of the victims died in the crash, while two others sustained injuries.
The FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command received the report at about 4:04am and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
The deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The FRSC said the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further action.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
Ogunjobi also advised motorists to exercise extra caution when driving at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road crashes.
The FRSC commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
