The former Senator who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has condemned President Bola Tinubu for appointing spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, as the Chairman of the board of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Tinubu had, in a statement on Friday issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment of Morka as the Chairman of the NTA board as well as naming 19 state chairmen of the APC into the boards of different government agencies.
But Sani who recently defected to the APC, has kicked against the appointment of Morka into the NTA board, expressing concerns that the appointment could harm the independence of the television station if it is sustained.
In a post he shared on his Facebook page, Sani said the NTA, being a government owned institution, could end up not being objective in its reportage which would make Nigerians cast aspersions on its contents.
“The NTA is statutorily owned by the Federal Government. However, appointing the spokesperson of the ruling party to chair its board would cast aspersions on its content,” the politician turned social activist wrote.
“Its objectivity, image, and professionalism would be questioned more than ever before. The party spokesman should be considered for an alternative appointment to save the station,” he added.
