The Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum (SKJF) has expressed concern over the continued captivity of worshippers abducted from Ariko Village in Kachia Local Government Area during Easter celebrations, as well as other kidnap victims across Southern Kaduna.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting in Kaduna, the forum called on the Kaduna State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the immediate and unconditional release of the victims.

The communiqué, signed by the forum’s Chairman, Ango Bally, and Secretary, Lilian Silas, described the security situation in several communities across Southern Kaduna as alarming, disturbing and unacceptable.

According to the forum, recurring attacks, kidnappings and threats to lives have severely affected economic activities, displaced many families, disrupted farming and commercial activities and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the region.

The forum noted that the persistent insecurity was undermining socio-economic development and worsening the humanitarian situation in many affected communities.

It also expressed concern over reports that some communities had resorted to negotiating with bandits and other criminal elements for survival and protection, saying the development reflected growing desperation among residents and highlighted the urgent need for stronger government intervention and improved security presence in vulnerable areas.

The journalists, however, commended Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive style of governance and engagement with various stakeholders across the state.

They urged the governor to sustain the approach and deepen consultations with communities affected by insecurity as part of efforts to promote peace, stability and development in Southern Kaduna.
