SSDC Is A game-Changer, Rep. Akiba

By Anietie Akpan

The Member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has described the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), as a game-changer for the region’s long-term development and prosperity.

In this regards, he called on stakeholders across the South-South geopolitical zone to unite in support of the newly established  Commission.

In a release from The Bridge Media, Rep. Akiba, who is also the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, hailed President Tinubu’s administration for demonstrating unwavering commitment to inclusive development, recognizing the diverse needs of each region and working towards balanced national progress.

“This Commission represents a new dawn for the South-South. It is more than a policy document—it is a pathway to meaningful, people-driven development,” Akiba stated.

“We now have an opportunity to chart a course for the future that prioritizes our region’s growth, empowers our people, and addresses the unique challenges we have faced for too long.”

He emphasized that broad-based support and collaboration will be critical to the success of the SSDC, urging governments at all levels  to actively engage and partner with the Commission in shaping its priorities.

“As a representative of the people, I will ensure that the voices of Calabar Municipality/ Odukpani Federal Constituency are heard, and that our communities benefit directly from this initiative. We must not just celebrate the establishment of the SSDC—we must rally around it to make sure it delivers on its mandate,” he added.

While commending the appointment of competent professionals and technocrats who understand the developmental realities of the region, Rep. Akiba noted that the premier Commission will drive sustainable development and progress.
