As the sacred month of Ramadan approaches, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has made a heartfelt appeal to traders across the state: ease the burden on citizens by lowering the prices of goods.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the JNI Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, the Sultan urged Nigerian Muslims to embody the spirit of Ramadan by embracing charity, kindness, and selflessness. “As the Muslim community prepares for Ramadan, let this period serve as a reminder of the importance of compassion, kindness, and generosity,” he said.
The Sultan’s call for affordable pricing is a plea rooted in the economic realities faced by many Nigerians. With rising inflation and increasing costs of basic necessities, his message resonates with those struggling to provide for their families during this holy season. By reducing the cost of goods, traders can ease the financial strain and enable more people to observe Ramadan with peace of mind.

But his appeal didn’t stop there. The Sultan also called on federal and state governments, corporate bodies, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and wealthy individuals to extend a helping hand to those in need. “This is a time for us to come together and support one another,” he said. “Let’s make life easier for our fellow citizens as they fast and pray.”
He further encouraged Muslims to pray fervently for their families, communities, and the nation’s stability and prosperity. In a strong admonition against violence and crime, the Sultan urged those involved in armed banditry and insurgency to reflect on their actions and turn toward peace. “Fear Allah and desist from violence,” he appealed.
As the faithful prepare for the month of fasting and reflection, the Sultan also stressed the importance of proper religious guidance. He called on qualified Islamic scholars to lead Quranic exegeses and warned against the spread of misinformation from unqualified individuals.
Concluding his message, the Sultan wished Nigerian Muslims an accepted fast and a blessed Ramadan. “Ramadan Mubarak to all,” he said.
