Super Falcons maintain Africa’s top spot in latest FIFA rankings

by Editorial Team

in Sports

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their position as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking.

Despite not playing any matches since the last update on December 13, 2024, the nine-time WAFCON champions remain 36th globally, keeping their spot as the continent’s best.

Nigeria leads Africa’s rankings, followed by South Africa in second place, despite dropping four spots globally to 54th. Morocco holds onto third place at 60th worldwide, while Zambia, ranked fourth in Africa, has slipped two positions to 64th.

With the 2026 WAFCON approaching, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will look to close the gap on Nigeria. A successful title defense could see them overtake the Super Falcons as Africa’s No.1 team.

Elsewhere, Kenya recorded the biggest improvement on the continent, jumping seven places to 142nd, while Tunisia endured the steepest fall, dropping 11 spots to 89th. Djibouti achieved their highest-ever ranking, climbing to 195th.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released on June 12, 2025, with Nigeria aiming to strengthen their position as Africa’s top team ahead of WAFCON.
