A suspected militant claiming to speak on behalf of the Chobo ethnic group has issued a chilling threat to launch coordinated night-time attacks on Bachama-speaking communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, raising fears of a fresh wave of mass killings in the troubled region.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the suspected militia leader vowed that no life would be spared within areas marked out by his group, declaring that Chobo fighters had adopted what he described as a “night mode operation” strategy.
According to him, the militia would move from village to village under the cover of darkness, targeting Bachama settlements in what observers fear could trigger another deadly escalation of the long-running communal conflict.
“There will be mass killings, there will be mass bloodshed, there will be wailing across Bachama land,” the warlord reportedly declared in the video.
The suspected warlord further identified himself as a pastor, blending ethnic grievances with religious rhetoric.
In a striking comparison, he likened the Chobo tribe to Israel, asserting that despite being a relatively small ethnic group, the Chobo would defeat their opponents just as, according to him, Israel has consistently prevailed in its battles.
He used the analogy to project confidence in what he described as the tribe’s determination to overcome all resistance.
The threat comes amid lingering tensions between Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde, where a land and communal crisis has claimed lives, displaced residents and destroyed property over the past year.
Reports indicate that despite several peace agreements brokered by authorities, hostilities have repeatedly resurfaced.
In the video, the militia leader also levelled allegations against Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, accusing her of sponsoring Bachama fighters and fuelling the protracted conflict.
He alleged that the deputy governor was the political force behind attacks against the Chobo people and blamed her for the continued violence in the area.
The claims were made without any evidence being presented in the video and have not been independently verified.
The latest threat is expected to heighten fears among residents of Lamurde, a local government inhabited by both Bachama and Chobo communities and already scarred by months of deadly clashes, reprisals and displacement.
