The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it has restored the Benin–Omotosho 330kV transmission line, ending a week-long outage that disrupted electricity transmission to parts of southern Nigeria.
The transmission line was successfully returned to service at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, following extensive repair works by TCN engineers.
The line had been out of service since June 25 after its conductors became detached, causing a major transmission fault and limiting power evacuation through the corridor.
A statement issued on Friday by the General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ms Ndidi Mbah, stated that the incident reduced the amount of electricity available to distribution companies serving parts of Lagos, Edo, Ondo and neighbouring areas.
According to TCN, its engineers immediately mobilised to the site, restrung the detached conductors and carried out maintenance on the affected sections before restoring the line to full operation.
“With the transmission line back in service, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Eko Electricity Distribution Plc and Ikeja Electric can now receive increased power from the national grid to improve electricity supply across their franchise areas,’’ the statement stated.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers for the disruption caused by the outage and thanked affected customers for their patience and understanding throughout the repair period.
