A notorious kidnapper popularly known as Black has confessed that the information he got about his target (victim) was disclosed by the target’s tenant.

Black was arrested on Sunday, November 5, 2023, by the Police after escaping, following his attempt with three others to kidnap Mrs Caroline Bassey, a former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff in Calabar, Cross River State.

CONVERSEER reports that on Saturday, November 4, 2023, three suspects were arrested by the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (Dragon Squad) unit of the Nigeria Police at Nyahasang after abducting Mrs Bassey from her residence at Mathias Oje Avenue but Black managed to flee.

However, in the early hours of today (Sunday), the Dragon Squad led by SP Igini Chukwuma arrested Black at Daniel Anyogor Street off Victory Way, Satellite Town.

Confirming the arrest, SP Irene Ugbo, Police Spokesperson in Cross River State said Black was arrested while hiding inside the ceiling of the house of his girlfriend.

SP Ugbo who said the arrest was a milestone breakthrough as there have been pockets of kidnapping within the Calabar metropolis, said also that the suspected kidnap kingpin went to take refuge at his girlfriend’s apartment at Satellite Town where he was arrested based on intelligence.

According to the Police Spokesperson, “Unknown to him (Black), SP Ogini and his men were on his trail, and at about 05:10am this morning, they swooped in on him at his girlfriend’s apartment where he jumped into the ceiling in a bid to evade the arrest before he was apprehended by the gallant operatives from Dragon Squad.

“He confessed to being the brain behind Mrs Caroline Bassey’s kidnap and mentioned her tenant (name withheld) as the person who contracted him and his gang to kidnap the former INEC staff.”

Ugbo further revealed that the said tenant also confessed to how she planned her landlady’s abduction with a kidnap syndicate led by Black.

CONVERSEER learned that Mrs Bassey retired from the INEC a few months ago.
